Analysis of the jobs held by the resident workforce in the East Gippsland Shire in 2021shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,130 people or 16.3%)
  • Construction (1,918 people or 10.0%)
  • Retail Trade (1,868 people or 9.7%)

In combination these three industries employed 6,916 people in total or 36.0% of the total resident workforce.

In comparison, Victoria employed 14.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.4% in Construction and 9.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the resident workforce of the East Gippsland Shire and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of resident workforce employed in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (8.4% compared to 2.1%)
