Dominant groups

An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the Northern Tasmania Region in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Construction ($2,664million or 23.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($1,137million or 9.9%)
  • Manufacturing ($978million or 8.5%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $4,779 million in total or 41.5% of the total local sales by total industry in the the Northern Tasmania Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 25.2% in Construction; 9.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 6.4% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between local sales by industries of the Northern Tasmania Region and Tasmania were:

  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Mining (0.7% compared to 3.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of local sales by Construction (23.1% compared to 25.2%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Manufacturing (8.5% compared to 6.4%)
  • A larger percentage of local sales by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (5.6% compared to 3.9%)
