Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in Northern Midlands in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($386 million or 28.2%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance ($143 million or 10.4%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($136 million or 10.0%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $665 million in total or 48.6% of the total imports by industry in the Northern Midlands.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 29.7% in Manufacturing; 8.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance and 6.6% in Financial and Insurance Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of Northern Midlands and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Financial and Insurance Services (10.0% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Transport, Postal and Warehousing (2.3% compared to 5.5%)
  • A larger percentage of total imports by Health Care and Social Assistance (10.4% compared to 8.2%)
