Dominant groups

An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in Northern Midlands in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (467 million or 43.5%)
  • Manufacturing (272 million or 25.3%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (181 million or 16.8%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 921 million in total or 85.6% of the total exports by industry in the Northern Midlands.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Tasmania accounted for 21.1% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 14.5% in Manufacturing and 8.6% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing.

The major differences between the total exports by industries of Northern Midlands and Tasmania were:

  • A larger percentage of total exports by Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (43.5% compared to 21.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of total exports by Health Care and Social Assistance (2.0% compared to 15.1%)
  • A larger percentage of total exports by Manufacturing (25.3% compared to 14.5%)
