Output by industry is a gross measure of the total sales of each industry sector in the Townsville City Council. It does not measure how productive each industry sector is at producing this output - which is measured by value added.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the output by industry sectors in the Townsville City Council in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:
- Public Administration and Safety ($4,743 million or 17.0%)
- Construction ($3,716 million or 13.3%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance ($2,718 million or 9.8%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $11,177 million in total or 40.2% of the total output by total industry in the the Townsville City Council.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Queensland accounted for 5.2% in Public Administration and Safety; 14.1% in Construction and 6.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance.
The major differences between output by industries of the Townsville City Council and Queensland were:
