Dominant groups

An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the Riverina and Murray Region in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Manufacturing ($4,446 million or 32.3%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services ($1,287 million or 9.4%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($1,204 million or 8.7%)

In combination these three industries accounted for $6,937 million in total or 50.4% of the total imports by industry in the the Riverina and Murray Region.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 33.5% in Manufacturing; 8.0% in Financial and Insurance Services and 6.8% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between total imports by industries of the Riverina and Murray Region and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of total imports by Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (8.7% compared to 6.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of total imports by Mining (3.6% compared to 5.4%)
