Dominant groups
An analysis of the total imports by industry sectors in the City of Newcastle in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:
- Manufacturing ($4,895 million or 40.6%)
- Mining ($1,567 million or 13.0%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($924 million or 7.7%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $7,386 million in total or 61.3% of the total imports by industry in the the City of Newcastle.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted for 33.5% in Manufacturing; 5.4% in Mining and 8.0% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between total imports by industries of the City of Newcastle and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of total imports by Mining (13.0% compared to 5.4%)
- A larger percentage of total imports by Manufacturing (40.6% compared to 33.5%)
