Value added by industry is an indicator of business productivity in the Shire of Harvey. It shows how productive each industry sector is at increasing the value of its inputs. It is a more refined measure of the productivity of an industry sector than output (total gross revenue), as some industries have high levels of output but require large amounts of input expenditure to achieve that.

An analysis of the valued added by industry sectors in the Shire of Harvey in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:

  • Mining (1,978 million or 56.3%)
  • Construction (696 million or 19.8%)
  • Manufacturing (231 million or 6.6%)

In combination these three industries accounted for 2,905 million in total or 82.7% of the total value added by industry in the the Shire of Harvey.

In comparison, the same 3 industries in Western Australia accounted for 49.1% in Mining; 5.9% in Construction and 4.8% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the value added by industries of the Shire of Harvey and Western Australia were:
