Dominant groups
An analysis of the local sales by industry sectors in the City of Melbourne in 2023/24 shows the three largest industries were:
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services ($21,082million or 20.5%)
- Construction ($16,117million or 15.7%)
- Financial and Insurance Services ($14,925million or 14.5%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $52,124 million in total or 50.7% of the total local sales by total industry in the the City of Melbourne.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in Victoria accounted for 9.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 24.2% in Construction and 5.8% in Financial and Insurance Services.
The major differences between local sales by industries of the City of Melbourne and Victoria were:
